The Chairman, Anambra Truth Justice and Peace Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has said the insecurity in the South East must be tackled through concerted measures and partnerships to de-escalate tension in the region and build inclusion with youths and communities.
Odinkalu, a human rights lawyer, said the South-East region must start making concerted efforts towards regaining its reputation as the commercial and enterprise centre of Nigeria.
He stated this in Awka, on Friday, adding that enterprise will not thrive amid violence or conflict currently being experienced in the region.
He added that as a result, a two-day technical workshop, themed, ‘Concord initiative zonal workshop’, had been scheduled for May 16 and May 17, in Awka.
He explained that the workshop is being put in place in collaboration with the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience in The Presidency and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, among other stakeholders.
Odinkalu said, “The initiative will explore non-kinetic measures to foster durable peace building and coexistence among the people of the states of the South-East.
“The South-East region needs to regain its reputation as the enterprise centre of Nigeria. Enterprises cannot thrive amid current violence or conflict.
Odinkalu said, “The Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission, in its extensive work on insecurity in Anambra State, had established that though the armed forces engaged in kinetic solutions to the crisis in the South-East, there was a need for complementary, non-kinetic measures of de-escalation.”
