The Kano State Government has ordered the closure of all bank accounts operated by its ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the state.

The government directed that they be merged into a single treasury account.

Governor Abba Yusuf issued this directive at a meeting held at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday.

He explained that this decision was necessitated by the financial irregularities observed in various ministries and agencies.

He stated, “The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct.”

The governor warned that any ministry or agency that fails to comply with this directive within one week would face legal consequences.

The Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zayyid Abubakar, also spoke at the meeting.

Abubakar unveiled a new plan for tax collection under the unified treasury account system.

He said, “This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds.”

The meeting was attended by top government officials including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, commissioners, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives from various banks.
