The Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) has confirmed its commitment to promoting global dialogue on energy transition and sustainability at the upcoming 29th World Gas Conference (WGC 2025), scheduled to take place in Beijing, China, from May 19 and 23, 2025.

Speaking with the media in Lagos, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi, president of the NGA, said that the association will host a Nigeria Pavilion at the prestigious triennial event, organised by the International Gas Union (IGU).

Nwokedi highlighted the significant progress made within Nigeria’s gas sector, noting over $5 billion in new gas investments over the past year.

He said that these investments span areas including infrastructure, floating LNG, gas processing, and domestic utilisation.

He also referenced key reforms from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, such as new Executive Orders on Oil & Gas, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) pipeline, and the Decentralized Gas Distribution Framework, all of which aim to increase energy access and inclusion.

The NGA president further commended regulators like the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for leading the commercialization efforts and introducing a revised domestic gas pricing framework.

The NGA also expressed its continued support for methane reduction and enhanced CNG safety, applauding NNPC Limited and its leadership under Mr. Bayo Ojulari for spearheading transformative gas initiatives.

“With 209 trillion cubic feet of proven reserves and the potential to reach up to 600 TCF, Nigeria is positioning gas as the cornerstone of its energy transition strategy,” Nwokedi stated.

“We must ensure the transition works for us. Gas is our best option to combat energy poverty while reducing emissions.”

Nwokedi revealed that the Nigeria Pavilion at WGC 2025 will showcase Nigeria’s advancements in the gas sector, highlight investment opportunities, and promote strategic goals under the “Decade of Gas” initiative.

“This platform is not just symbolic; it’s strategic,” he emphasised.

“It signifies Nigeria’s readiness to take its rightful place in the global gas ecosystem—not only as a resource-rich nation but also as a prime investment destination.

He said that the Nigeria Pavilion will bring together government officials, industry stakeholders, and international partners to showcase major projects across the gas value chain.

Nwokedi emphasised that the conference will highlight Nigerian content champions, provide top-tier networking opportunities, and foster global discussions on energy transition and sustainability.

He noted that the Pavilion’s objective is to attract global investment into Nigeria’s gas infrastructure, processing, and distribution projects, while supporting international partnerships in financing, technology, and off-take agreements.

He added that it will also reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging gas for sustainable, low-carbon development.

“This isn’t just about gas; it’s about jobs, industry, cleaner energy, and national transformation.

“Nigeria is ready. NGA is ready. WGC 2025 is our global stage. Let’s seize it—together,” Nwokedi concluded
