The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday said it arrested 16-year-old Solomon Ibiwoye, with a locally made pistol in the Ebute-Ero area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public.

He noted that upon receiving the report, police officers from the Ebute-Ero division conducted a search of the suspect’s house and recovered the gun alongside a cartridge.

He said, “Kudos to observant Lagosians who noticed 16-year-old Solomon Ibiwoye with a firearm and discreetly alerted Ebute-Ero Police Division.

“The police searched his house and recovered a locally fabricated firearm and an unexpended cartridge. An investigation is in progress. One more firearm off the streets.”

PUNCH Metro reported in March 2018 that a 15-year-old pupil at the Community Secondary School, Akenfa-Epie, in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, identified only as Emmanuel, was arrested with a locally-made pistol during lecture hours.

It was learnt that the teenager was apprehended while in school uniform by some indigenes of the Akenfa community, led by a vigilante group, and handed him over to the police.
