Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) is set to resume the import of electricity from Spain to Portugal starting Thursday, May 8, confirmed a company source. However, the capacity for this flow will be limited to 1000 MW.

“Following the blackout event that occurred on April 28, 2025, in the National Electric System and the consequent ongoing stabilization process, it is announced that the capacity for interconnection between Portugal and Spain will be limited to 1000 MW in the import direction, during the period from May 8 to May 12 (CEST – Central European Summer Time),” stated REN in a press release.Sustainable tourism packages

Until now, this flow had been halted due to last week’s energy blackout.

This interruption was incurring significant costs for the national electrical system, as it prevented Portugal from benefiting from the more competitive wholesale prices of Spanish production.
