The All Progressives Congress has endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its flag bearer in the 2027 presidential elections.
The Party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, announced this on Thursday, on behalf of its National Working Committee, at its National Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.
“I urge all members to reject internal sabotage. Engage communities, listen to citizens, and build a political structure beyond elections. Let us rally behind President Bola Tinubu, support our policies, and deliver the Renewed Hope Nigerians rightfully deserve,” Ganduje said.
The endorsement came hours after APC governors and lawmakers cast a vote of confidence on the president and endorsed him for a second term.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, moved the motion for the endorsement, saying Tinubu’s leadership had restored purpose to governance.
“The President has provided inspiring and visionary leadership and deserves a second term in 2027,” Uzodimma said.
The motion was seconded by the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also backed the motion and praised the President for his inclusive style and determination to make hard but necessary reforms.
Tinubu, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the show of confidence and reiterated that his administration would remain focused on delivering tangible results for Nigerians.
“I thank every one of you. I am thoroughly inspired. We are just halfway through the journey that started 24 months ago,” he said.
The President used the occasion to push back against concerns that Nigeria was drifting into a one-party system, saying the APC’s dominance was a result of performance, not coercion.
“A one-party system is not suitable for democracy. We are one party ruling and carrying on with the aspirations of Nigerians. You don’t expect people to remain in a sinking ship without a life jacket. I am happy with what we have accomplished and expecting more people to come; that’s the game,” he said.
According to Tinubu, the administration’s economic reforms, though difficult, are beginning to yield positive results, especially in restoring investor confidence and eliminating long-standing systemic distortions.
“Today, I am proud to affirm that our economic reforms are working. Nothing good comes easy in life. We couldn’t just afford to spend the future of our children and unborn babies,” he said.
He cited the end of multiple exchange rates and ongoing tax reforms as key steps in sanitising the economy and attracting foreign direct investments.
“If you allow the arbitrage in the exchange rate to continue, that is the grandfather of corruption. You could see EFCC recover over seven hundred and fifty-something houses from one person,” Tinubu warned.
The summit, attended by 22 APC governors, members of the Federal Executive Council, National Working Committee, and lawmakers, also reviewed sectoral progress in infrastructure, healthcare, security, and anti-corruption efforts.
The President maintained that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was on course, and urged party leaders to stay connected to the people and not let internal divisions derail the mission.
“Through our Renewed Hope Agenda, our administration pledged to tackle economic instability, improve security nationwide, reduce corruption, reform governance, and lift our people out of poverty,” he said.
Tinubu stressed that leadership comes with tough calls, but insisted that only courageous decisions could deliver a lasting turnaround.
“Yes, we encountered challenges when we assumed office in May 2023, but we have made progress by implementing difficult, long overdue but necessary economic reforms,” he said.
