Delta State has reclaimed the top position on the medals table at the ongoing 2025 National Sports Festival (NSF), Gateway Games 2024, after the conclusion of Day 5 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Defending champions Team Delta now lead the standings with a total of 76 medals: 36 gold, 12 silver, and 28 bronze, as they continue their pursuit of a record-extending ninth National Sports Festival title since 2000.

Delta’s resurgence was fueled by two gold medals in swimming. Duke Eniyekenumi clinched gold in the Men’s 200m Backstroke, while Akiayefa Timipame-ere triumphed in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley event.

Having trailed early leaders Bayelsa State, Delta have now surged ahead with consistent podium finishes across various events.

Team Bayelsa, aiming for their first-ever National Sports Festival title, sits in second place with 32 gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze medals. Team Rivers occupies the third position with 15 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze.

Hosts Ogun State are in fourth place with 11 gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze, while Team Oyo, hosts of the 1979 edition, are in fifth with 10 gold, 11 silver, and 16 bronze.

Team Lagos, four-time champions, are currently in sixth position after collecting 9 gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals.

The festival continues across multiple venues, with athletics finally set to begin at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta following a brief delay caused by early morning rain.
