AIB-N commissioner assures more contributions towards safer skies

The Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N), Mr Akin Olateru, has assured that the bureau would do more to the contributions of ensuring safer skies in the airspace.

Olateru gave the assurance in a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, in Lagos on Saturday

Olateru said the recent Aviation CEO of the year award was an incentive to do more to ensure safety of the Nigerian airspace.

The commissioner noted that the award was in recognition of his leadership quality, diligence and excellent contribution to the safety of the aviation industry in Nigeria.

“I would like to thank all those that voted for me to be awarded the Aviation CEO of the year 2021. This is a way to boost our performances because as a public servant, you are not a shareholder in the organisation.

“There is no profit that comes to you at the end of the day, so for people to see what we are doing and give us an award, that is our reward,” he said.

Olateru, however, dedicated the award to all the aviation CEOs in the country, the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, and the ‘wonderful AIB team’ adding that “Without them, he couldn’t have done it alone”.

He noted that since his assumption of office in 2017, he and the bureau had been recognised by several bodies for their outstanding leadership qualities in the aviation sector.
