Govt releases 82 air crash reports, 272 recommendations

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau on Thursday said it had released a total of 272 safety recommendations and 82 accident reports of air crashes and various incidents recorded in the Nigerian airspace since inception.

The Director-General, NSIB, Akin Olateru, disclosed while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

Olateru said that this year alone, seven reports and 30 safety recommendations have been released so far by the bureau.

He said 191 out of the total safety recommendations and 63 out of the total accident reports were done by the current administration from 2017 till date.

Olateru noted that the released reports were essential to the fulfillment of the bureau’s mandate of investigating aircraft accidents and serious incidents with the aim of enhancing safety, through safety recommendations issued, thereby assuring safe skies in Nigeria and Globally.

The NSIB boss noted that the bureau remains committed to improving safety processes, human capacity and equipment growth, and fulfillment of its mandate effectively, purposefully and professionally.

He said, “Today, we are releasing seven serious incident final reports. Included in the reports are 20 Safety Recommendations, which were addressed to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, the affected airlines, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, among others.”
