Otti fires revenue agents in Abia State

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has fired revenue enforcement agents appointed by the previous administration of Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
This is part of the measures embarked upon by the new administration to sanitise activities around the transport sector and markets in the state,
This was contained in a statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Kazie Uko, which was made available to newsmen in the capital, Umuahia.
It directed the agents to return government property in their possession to the office of the special adviser to the governor on internally generated revenue and digital transformation.
“The special adviser will advise further on the government’s plan in this regard,” the statement further stated.
It would be recalled that the government suspended levies on commercial transportation in the state to sanitise the methods of collection and to stop extortion, intimidation and harassment of the operators
This was contained in a statement by the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma which was made available to newsmen in the capital last Tuesday.
The statement said the suspension which is with immediate effect is in line with the campaign promises of Otti, who was sworn into office last Monday.
“The suspension will remain until the government reviews the levies and makes arrangements for their smooth, organized and transparent collection to end the challenges,” it said.’’
