UNICEF wants Nasarawa council boss to support community volunteers

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has appealed to the Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro, to support community health volunteers in the area with incentives to improve their standard of living.

The Chief of Field Officer of UNICEF, Kaduna State, Mrs Zakari Adam,  made the call on Friday when he led other members of the organisation on a courtesy visit to Maigoro in his office in Keffi.

Adam told the council boss that the team was in Keffi on an assessment tour to one of its service centre for Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) in  Keffi with a view to addressing challenges if discovered.

He said “we are in Keffi on an assessesment tour to one of our service centre for Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) in Primary HealthCare Centre, Angwan Waje, Keffi, Nasarawa State.

“The tour will enable us to see things by ourselves with a view to addressing any challenges.

“We were happy with how mothers in Keffi embrace the programme toward tackling the malnutrition challenges of their children, as it will go a long way in improving their health status.”

Adam also informed the council boss that he was happy with the determination of community volunteers in the area on programme toward ensuring quality service delivery.

Responding, Maigoro thanked UNICEF for the visit.

He also commended the organisation for being up and doing to improve on the lives and health status of children and Nigerians.

Mrs Fatima Musa, a Community Volunteer in Keffi, who spoke on behalf of others appealed for more incentives to volunteers to boost their morale, standard of living and to take care of their local transportation and running.

She said that the provision of Ready to Use therapeutic Food (RUTF) by UNICEF to malnourished children had improved the lives of children.

Ms Chinwe Ezeife and Mr Rabiu Musa, the Nutrition Specialist and Communication Officer of UNICEF, Kaduna State, were part of the UNICEF team.

The Ready to Use therapeutic Food (RUTF) provided by UNICEF for malnourished children is being funded by Children International Foundation Fund.
