Kenya finance ministry predicts drop in budget deficit

By GIWA Shile

The Kenya Finance Ministry says it foresees the country’s budget deficit fall to 5.0 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the 2019/20 (July-June) fiscal year.

The ministry made the forecast known in a draft budget policy statement on Friday in Nairobi.

It said the fall would be 1.3 per cent lower than the deficit of 6.3 per cent of GDP in 2018/19 fiscal year.

The ministry also forecasts the deficit would drop to 3.0 per cent of the GDP in 2022/23.
