Ogun paid N4.8bn to state pensioners in 6 months, says Official

The Permanent Secretary (PS), Ogun Bureau of State Pensions, Mrs Ajiun Dada, on Wednesday said that the state government paid N4.8billion to the state pensioners between January and June.

Dada disclosed this while playing host to the members of Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, who were on an oversight visit to the bureau in Abeokuta.

The permanent secretary also stated that the state government had also paid N37.4 million as gratuities during the same period.

She noted that the government had made significant achievements in matters concerning the welfare of pensioners and the entire workforce of the state.

“Pensioners in the state receive their monthly pension simultaneously with the serving workers’ salaries and no pensioner in the state is owed any arrears of monthly pension.

“It is pertinent to note that the bureau maintains a mutual relationship with the National Pensions Commission (PENCOM) and the Pension Fund Administrators (PFA),” she said.

Responding, Mrs Modupe Mujota, the Chairman, House Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, urged the bureau to ensure prompt payment of the pensioners’ entitlements.

Mujota said that the assembly would support the bureau when necessary.

The other members of the committee include: Elemide Oludaisi,  Ajibola Sikirat and Adeyanju Adegoke.
