EEDC lauds security agents for sustaining fight against vandals in South-East

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has lauded the Police, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and vigilante groups for sustaining the fight against electricity installations vandals in the South-East.

The company’s Head of Communications, Mr Emeka Ezeh, made the commendation in Enugu on Tuesday.

Ezeh also thanked public-spirited individuals in neighbourhoods and communities in the zone that joined the fight against vandals and energy theft in order to ensure constant and improved power supply.

“We, therefore, commend the support of vigilante groups and security agencies such as the NSCDC, the Nigeria Army and the Nigeria Police for ensuring that this ugly menace is addressed and perpetrators brought to book.

“We also appreciate the effort of the judiciary in ensuring speedy trial of these vandals. EEDC hopes that this will serve as a deterrent to others who indulge in this act of sabotage which impacts negatively on the quality of service we render to our customers.

“We have committed millions of naira in restoring vandalised transformers and this is not a sustainable practice. We, therefore, continue to appeal to our customers to join hands in protecting these electrical installations serving them.’’

Ezeh said the company was not relenting in its engagement with communities and critical stakeholders on the need to be vigilant and join hands with EEDC in protecting the installations in their neighbourhood.

“Residents of the South-East should report any suspicious activity to their respective feeder managers or to the nearest security operatives in their area,’’ he added.
