The British Deputy High Commissioner, Ms Harriet Thompson, on Thursday said that Nigeria must seek high quality investment to provide employment and improve standard of living of its citizens.
Thompson gave the advice at a forum on 2020 Economic Outlook, organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce in Lagos.
The meeting had as its theme ” UK/Nigerian Partnership Plans for 2020″.
According to her, a UK- Nigerian partnership is strategic to facilitate and aid trade relations.
“Both countries have the advantage of shared languages, similar time zones, high skilled levels, innovation and openness to properly harness and maximize the benefits of the partnership.
“Top British companies have been investing, are still investing and more are still expected to invest.
“UK firms have several advantages of skill based research and world class technologies and this, we will like to share with Nigeria to ensure a successful partnership.
“Nigeria has the opportunity to tell the British companies what it has to offer greater than oil and gas” she said.
Thompson urged Nigerian entrepreneurs and governments take advantage of the UK- Africa Investment Summit scheduled to hold on Jan. 20, in London.
According to her, the summit will provide opportunity for Nigeria to showcase the abundant commercial opportunities that exist in the continent.
The summit will be hosted by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and will bring together businesses, governments and international institutions to showcase and promote quality investment opportunities across Africa.
The summit serves to strengthen UK’s partnership with African nations to build a secure future by mobilising new and substantial investment to create jobs and boost mutual prosperity.
