Nigerian Airlines Losing N17bn Monthly –Aviation Minister

The aviation industry is the worst hit sector of the economy by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

Sirika, who stated this on Wednesday during the presidential taskforce briefing on COVID-19, said airlines have lost nearly N17 billion monthly since their operations were grounded, as part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus.

“We are in very difficult moments like everyone else. All of this started because someone travelled and unfortunately came back home with it and the consequence is what we’ve been going though.

“We are the worst hit, than any other sector. Some N17 billion naira monthly is being lost by the airlines, thanks to COVID-19.”

The Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Coronavirus (COVID-19), Boss Mustapha says the overall compliance observed with the easing of lockdown shows that there is danger ahead for the country.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the government of the Federation, stated this on Wednesday during the ongoing presidential taskforce on COVID-19 briefing.

Corroborating the fears of Mustapha, National Coordinator of the Taskforce, Aliyu Sani also said, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from being over.
