Confirmed cases of coronavirus have increased to 6,401 in Nigeria, TBI Africa reports.
This is after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced 226 new cases on Tuesday.
While making the announcement, the NCDC also said COVID-19 fatalities have increased to 192 after one patient died.
A breakdown of data released by the centre showed that Edo State recorded one COVID-19 death, making the total fatalities in the state rise to six.
TBI Africa reports that no fewer than 90 patients recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours in the country.
NCDC said, “On the 19th of May 2020, 226 new confirmed cases and 1 death was recorded in Nigeria.
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 6,401 cases have been confirmed, 1,734 cases have been discharged and 192 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 226 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos (131), Ogun (25), Plateau (15), Edo (11), Kaduna (seven), Oyo (six), FCT (five), Adamawa (five), Jigawa (four), Ebonyi (four), Borno (four), Nasarawa (three), Bauchi (two), Gombe (two), Enugu (one), Bayelsa (one).”
A further breakdown of the data obtained from the NCDC’s website showed that of the 192 COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria, 38 were recorded in Lagos, Kano, 36; FCT, nine; Katsina, 13; Borno, 24; Bauchi five; Jigawa, three, Ogun, six; Kaduna, three; Oyo, four; Gombe, two; Sokoto, 13; Edo, six; Zamfara, five; Kwara, one; Rivers, three; Osun, four; Plateau, one; Kebbi, four; Yobe, one; Nasarawa, one; Delta, five; Niger, one; Ondo, one; Ekiti, one, and Akwa Ibom also recorded two deaths.
The data also showed that as of 11.50 pm on May 19, Nigeria has 4,475 active COVID-19 cases.

TBI Africa reports that Lagos has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria with 2,755 confirmed infections, 565 recoveries, and 38 deaths.
Kano has the second-highest COVID-19 cases with 842 confirmed cases followed by FCT, 427 cases; Katsina, 281; then, Borno with 227 cases.
However, the NCDC reported no new case for Kano in its announcement on Tuesday.
