Buhari should explain why he refused to sack service chiefs – PANDEF

The  Pan Niger Delta Forum has call on members of the National Assembly to use the opportunity the expected visit of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ask him why he had refused to sack the service chiefs in the face of the increasing level of insecurity in the country.

PANDEF Spokesman, Mr. Ken Robinson, who made this call during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, said the interaction should be devoid of political sentiment that would defeat the essence of the meeting.

He said, “The primary issue is the insecurity in the country; that is a major challenge, which is also related to the economic issues in the country. Nigerians are getting frightened by insecurity because they think their lives are no longer safe in the country. Nigeria is currently being classified as the third most terrorised country in the world.

“So, we expect that the National Assembly will be firm and courageous to ask specifically why the President has refused to sack the service chiefs in spite of very obvious non-performance and the worsening level of insecurity in the country.

“The federal lawmakers should bold and without fear of any kind to ask him what his programme is to fight killings, kidnapping and armed robbery and ensure insecurity is arrested without any further delay.

“The President should also be asked steps that have been taken to restructure Nigeria. The interaction with Mr. President should be devoid of political or party sentiment.

“Questions bordering on lopsided appointments in government should also be put forward to Mr. President; of course that is secondary. Going forward, he should be told definitely to sack his service chiefs. If it means that an ultimatum should be given to Mr. President on the floor of the House, it should be done.”
