By Olamilekan FAWAS

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Mr Yahaya Bello, has called for improved synergy and intelligence sharing among security agencies  to tackle security challenges in the country.

Bello made the call on Wednesday in Lafia while delivering a paper on”Management Skills and Security Strategies” at a workshop organised for senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command.

He noted that the inter-agency conflict, which had been identified as one of the bane of security in the country was being overcome through synergy, collaboration and support by all agencies.

“Based on this development, the security agencies now have regular consultations, intelligence sharing and joint operations to fight crime and criminality.

“Although this is more pronounced at the management level, the need to replicate same at every level cannot be over emphasised.

“All this nation requires at this trying period of our national history is for the various security heads and their lieutenants to close ranks and collaborate with each other.

“The way forward in forging a better inter/intra service synergy is through lectures/seminars, reorientation of our men on their rules of engagement by building friendship,“he said.

The commissioner said that the idea of withholding intelligence to confer advantage on a particular security agency should be jettisoned.

He charged the participants as managers saddled with responsibility, to always lead by example by being innovative, proactive and carry everyone along to achieve the desired results.

Earlier, Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari, Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, said the workshop was aimed at fostering better working relationship among security agencies in the state.

He noted that the synergy amongst the agencies would enhance their performance and impact on the security outlook of the state.

Mahmoud-Fari said the choice of the commissioner of police as the resource person was borne out of his wealth of knowledge and experience as a security officer.
