Ex-CBN Deputy Gov urges Nigerians to register, obtain voter card

By Meletus EZE

A former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has urged every Nigerian to register and obtain voter card to ensure full participation during the forthcoming general elections.

Moghalu, also a presidential aspirant under the Youth Democratic Party (YDP), made this call during an interactive session with newsmen, youth groups, traditional leaders and other relevant stakeholders on Tuesday in Abuja.

Moghalu stressed the need for every Nigerian to participate fully in the 2019 general elections and resist any temptation that would prompt anyone to sell his/her voter’s right for monetary gain.

“2019 is an opportunity and also a choice, between poverty and prosperity, unemployment and job creation, unity of Nigeria and continued fragmentation of this country.

“It is a choice between stability and lack of cohesion, security and insecurity, the choice is clear, make your choice with your PVC.

“If you cannot make that choice and say what your choice is either because you have not received your PVC or because you used it wrongly to return the recycled, tired, corrupt old class to power ,’’ he said.

The presidential aspirant, therefore, urged Nigerians not to allow religious and tribal sentiments to influence their choices of candidates to vote for during the 2019 general elections.

The former CBN official also urged Nigerians to participate fully in electoral processes to ensure emergence of credible leaders during the 2019 election.

“The 2019 general election is an opportunity for us to use our PVC wisely in electing leaders, not political class that will auction our future away,’’ he said.

Moghalu urged Nigerians to hold members of the National Assembly accountable for poor governance and ineffective representation.

He pointed out that any member that neglects his or her oversight function, and does not put the interest of his or her constituents into consideration, should be recalled to serve as deterrent to others.

He said the interactive session was aimed at providing a platform for the public to discuss the problems bedeviling the nation and proffer solutions that would bring an end to the challenges.

Moghalu said the interactive session granted him the opportunity to listen to members of the public on issues affecting the nation.
