Canoe tragedy: Sokoto Assembly offers special prayer for victims

The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday offered special prayer for the repose of the souls of victims of the canoe mishap in Dagwarga village in Yabo Local Government Area of the state.

This followed a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Bello Garba (PDP-Yabo), at plenary.

The lawmaker said that on Nov. 4, a canoe accident occurred in Dagwarga village of Toronkawa district in Yabo local government in which six people died, comprising five men and a woman.

Garba said that the deceased were buried on Monday.

“As such, I wish to request the state House of Assembly to offer a special prayer for the victims and their families,’’ he said.

The Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, directed one of the legislators, Alhaji Abdulwahab Yahaya (PDP- Goronyo) to lead the Assembly in a special prayer.

Maidaji further condoled with the victims’ families, and prayed that God would prevent a recurrence of such tragedy.
