As part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), ENL Consortium Ltd. – a seaport terminal operator, has donated N5 million to the Certified Institute of Shipping (CIS) in Lagos, to assist the school’s physical development.
The ENL Consortium is one of the terminal operators in the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) Apapa, that employs many graduates of shipping from maritime institutions across the country.
The company operates Terminals C and D of the Lagos Port Complex.
The Chief Executive Officer of ENL Consortium Dr Vicky Haastrup, , who made the donation to the CIS, said “it behoves on the ENL Consortium Ltd. to assist maritime institutions’’.
The CIS held its Investiture, Awards and Convocation ceremonies in Lagos on Thursday.
Haastrup, said that, there had to be good relationship between the industry and the institution in order to get the best in human capital development especially as regards the training of professionals.
“In the maritime sector we constantly crave for professionals to man our facilities and these required officers are products of schools.
“Therefore, there is every need for us as beneficiaries of the products of the schools to rally round them and lend our support in order to get the best from the schools.
“Maritime business is capital intensive and no investor will like to entrust his or her life fortune in the hand of a mediocre; in other words toying with his investment, ‘’ she said.
According to her, if organisations in Nigeria are thinking in this direction, the appalling standard of education in the country would be solved and the lacking correlation between industry and school curriculum would also be solved too.
Rector of the CIS, Prof. Alex Okwuashi, thanked the donor for her kind gesture.
Okwuashi pledged to deploy the money to uplift the school’s infrastructure that would aid the students in their educational pursuits.
