Election: IPCR boss tasks Nigerians on peace

By Elizabeth ADENUGA

The Acting Director General of the Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) Dr. Bakut Tswah, has called on all Nigerians to shun all forms of violence before, during and after the general elections.

Bakut, who made the call at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, stressed the need for Nigerians to promote peace and stability throughout the electoral process.

“Election is not war, it is a social contest of healthy rivalry for the common good of all citizens and national interest of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Electoral processes are expected to be peaceful, and this should be at the back of the mind of every Nigerian.

“Violence in the electoral process has nothing to offer than destruction of human lives and property thereby leaving behind pains, sorrows and tears,” said Tswah.

The IPCR boss urged the youth to dissociate themselves from selfish and dubious politicians to avoid negative repercussions.

“To the youth of this great country, I wish to reiterate that the future lies with you, disregard hooliganism and all forms of criminality that oppose civility, and in particular peace.

“You must remember that tomorrow will always be there for you, therefore, you must secure the future by being law abiding always and responsible in your civic duties.

“The youths should not allow themselves to be used as agents of destructions, but always remember that joy and peace of the mind will be lost to negative conducts and actions,” he said.——NAN
