NSCDC arrests electricity cable thieves in Bauchi, recovers N5.4m worth of cables

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in Bauchi, on Wednesday said it had arrested five suspects who allegedly stole electricity cables worth N5.4 million

The State Commandant of NSCDC Haliru Usman said this in Bauchi while parading the suspects before newsmen in Bauchi.

Usman named the suspects as Sanusi Ibrahim, 20, of Dajin Village of Tafawa Balewa Council, Mansur Hussaini, 25, and Aminu Hassan, 26, both of Tudun Salmanu in Bauchi Local Government of the state.

Others were Shehu Shagari, 34, of Magama town and Dauda Bashir,40, of Jos in Plateau

Usman said that operatives of the Dass Division of the command on June 25, arrested the suspects following intelligence reports.

He alleged that three of the suspects, Ibrahim,Hussaini and Hassan,conspired and vandalized high tension cables linking Dajin Village and Dull Village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Council of the state.

Usman explained that the suspects stole cable worth N5.4 million, while 109 pieces of cables measuring three meters, were recovered from them.

The commandant said  Shagari and Bashir, on the other hand, were arrested on June 22, along Magama Gumau in Toro Local Government in connection with the theft of high tension cables in Rimin Zayam along Bauchi to Jos road.

He said that the suspects had confessed to committing the crime, adding that all of them would be charged to court after investigations.
