Lafia power substation to begin test transmission December – Contractor

A power substation constructed by the Federal Government in Lafia, Nasarawa state, at a cost of over N5.5 billion, will commence test transmission by December.

Mr Samson Johnson, the Site Engineer of K-AY Eletrik, the firm handling the project, disclosed this on Thursday in Lafia, when members of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) paid a visit to the site.

Johnson said that the all the equipment for the 330,132KVA and 33KVA lines at the substation as well as the facilities in the control room had been installed.

“All the major installations and construction work had already been carried out. We are now left with minor fittings to complete the project.

According to him, the 330KVA substation, upon completion, will get its source from the Makurdi transmission line, which runs through Lafia to Jos.

He further explained that the 330KVA would be dropped at the substation and transformed into 132KVA and further to 33KVA for distribution by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

“So at 33KV, the AEDC can serve the customers in Lafia and other neighbouring communities,” he said.

In their remarks, the Vice-Chairman, North-Central and the Nasarawa State Chairman of the association, Ahmed Mohammed and Gabriel Dangana respectively, said that the visit was to acquaint themselves with the level of work on the project.

They duo expressed delight with the level of work, stating that when completed, it would address the challenge of inadequate power supply in the State.
