Imo Senatorial candidate allegedly shot dead security official

The people of Okigwe Senatorial Zone of Imo State have been thrown into mourning following the reported death of Ndubuisi Emenike, the Action Alliance Candidate in the 2019 senatorial election in the area. 

Emenike was accidentally shot by a security aide who is a personnel of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps on his way back from a political meeting on Sunday. The official was attached to one Chief Ken Egwuai. 

 The renowned philanthropist turned politician was rushed to Federal Medical Center, Owerri where he was confirmed dead. 

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the incident and disclosed that the NSCDC official was already in police custody. 

“I can confirm the shooting of Ndubuisi Emenike,” Ikeokwu said. “The officer who shot him is presently in custody.” 

This happened less than two months, his fellow contender in the 2019 election, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu slumped and died while taking his bath at his Abuja residence.
