Nnaji asks AIB to unravel cause of ill-fated helicopter crash

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Mr Nnolim Nnaji has Accidents Investigation Bureau, (AIB) to unravel the cause of the ill-fated accident involving Quorum Aviation helicopter in Lagos on Friday.

Nnaji made this known in a condolences message made known in Lagos on Sunday.

The lawmaker said this would enable the bureau to come up with appropriate safety recommendations to prevent further accident in the future.

Nnaji, however, expressed sadness over the unfortunate crash of the Quorum Aviation helicopter that occurred at Opebi in Lagos.

He also extended his sympathy to the families of the deceased occupants of the ill fated copter as well as the management and staff of Quorom Aviation.

“we must also be thankful to God that we did not record any ground casualty as it was a great miracle.

“This is because such crash could occur within a residential area in a city so populated like Lagos without any ground casualties.

Nnaji said it was regrettable that the unfortunate incident occurred a few minutes to the final landing at Murtala Mohammed Airport after flying several nautical miles all the way from Port Harcourt.

The lawmaker equally appealed to the members of the public to always avoid crowding the aircraft crash site when it occurs because their lives could be endangered.

He further noted that such usual rush could equally impede proper air accident investigation in the event that certain components that could aid investigation get tampered with.

The lawmaker said he was surprised at the amount of crowd that besieged the scene of the crash.

Nnaji added that there was urgent need to enlighten the public on the consequences of crowding air crash scene due to the danger of explosion that may occur.
