Spokesperson of NIS, Mr James Sunday, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said the new Border Commands were: Idi-Iroko in Ogun, Mfum in Cross River, Jibiya in Katsina and Illela in Sokoto State.

He said this followed directive by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on the need for the deployment of 50 per cent of the NIS’s workforce to secure the Border Posts.

“Following this upgrade, Senior Officers of the rank of Comptroller have been deployed to head the special commands while reporting to Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration in-charge of their respective zones.

“The four newly established special commands will be additional to the existing Seme Command.

“This is to enable the service operate seamlessly in the control and monitoring of movement of persons in and out of the country, for effective and efficient border management as well as enhanced national security, ” he said.
