LG poll: LASIEC unveils new ‘user-friendly’ website

Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has unveiled a new ‘user-friendly’ website, as part of preparations for the July 24 local government elections in the state.

LASIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Ayotunde Phillips, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by the commission’s Spokesman, Tope Ojo, said that the new website was faster, more secure, easier to navigate and user-friendly.

Phillips said that the website would further boost communication between the commission and its various stakeholders, particularly at this crucial period of election preparations.

The chairman urged members of the public to visit the website: www.lasiec.gov.ng and other social media channels of the commission, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and phone lines, for up-to date and accurate information.

According to her, enquiries, complaints and feedback can also be communicated via the channels.

Phillips said: “For the purpose of transparency, recruitment of ad hoc staff will be carried out online, while media accreditation and election observer forms will also be available for download at the website.

“For the legitimacy and credibility of the electoral process to be guaranteed, the electorate must be encouraged, educated, informed and provided with basic information about participating in elections, so as to freely express their political choices.”

She pledged the commission’s commitment to free, fair, credible and inclusive council polls.

According to her, the commission will continue to build and sustain its integrity as an impartial body, recognised for excellence in electoral administration and democratic sustainability.

Philips enjoined all participants in the election process to always play by the rules and comply with the guidelines issued by the commission.

LASIEC has rolled out timetable and guidelines to political parties for the conduct of the election in the state.
