Akpabio (Mrs) Emerges As New LCCI Agric Group Chairman

Mrs. Edobong Akpabio has been elected as the new Chairman of Agriculture and Agro-Allied Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the premier Chamber of Commerce and one of the leading voices in the organised private sector (OPS) in Nigeria.

Akpabio is to steer the ship of the group and take charge of its affairs for the next two years, as her emergence followed the expiration of the term of office of the previous executives of the group.

Mrs. Edobong Akpabio is a Co-Founder/CEO of Visionage Agrotech Farms Limited and Organic Green Animalia Farms Limited, two notable Agribusiness organisations. She is an energetic and highly resourceful entrepreneur.

She had her tertiary education at the University of Uyo, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies in 1988 and a post-graduate diploma In Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 2005.

Mrs. Akpabio has contributed immensely to the reversal of importation of agricultural products and has assisted in local content drive and sustainability.

The LCCI Agriculture Group Chairman expresses optimism on the role of agriculture in reviving the increasingly plummeting state of the Nigerian Economy.

She points out factors such as: unfavourable loan interest rate, unrealistic collateral requirements, onerous application procedure for loans, insufficient loan size and maturity date, poor infrastructure, multiple taxation and charges, amongst others, as issues that should be mitigated, if the diversification goal of the government is to be achieved through agricultural interventions.

Director General, LCCI, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said, “We are pleased as Mrs. Edobong Akpabio assumes the role of Chairman, LCCI Agriculture and Agro-Allied Group. Her election will ensure and enhance the Chamber’s role as leading advocate of best business policy and practice, with the view to promoting and protecting Small and Medium Enterprises, which in turn will impact positively on the economy.”
