Gunmen kill lawmaker, abduct travellers in Kaduna

Bandits have killed a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rilwanu Gadagau, on  Kaduna-Zaria Highway.

Gadagau represented Giwa constituency, and chaired a committee on local governments and rural development in the Assembly.

He was reported to have been killed on Monday night by bandits who attacked travellers along the road. His body was later discovered on Wednesday morning.

Another traveller was also reportedly killed by the bandits. Over 30 travellers were abducted.

“Our prayers are with his immediate family. Honourable Gadagau was a young and dynamic lawmaker, who had a passion for his constituency, state and Nigeria. We will miss his vibrant contributions.

“Our hearts also go out to those kidnapped in the same operation, believing that they would be rescued by security operatives as soon as possible.”

The remains of the late lawmaker have been laid to rest in Zaria.

The funeral was attended by Governor Nasir El-Rufai, a representative of the Speaker, and top government functionaries.
