Nationwide power outage worsens as TCN begins load shedding

The nationwide power outage rocking Nigeria has degenerated as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) begins massive load shedding across the 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos) catchment areas in the country.

This resulting from the shutdown of biggest thermal plant in the country, Egbin Power Plc, could further worsen the business woes for small and medium scale firms, as well as, surging the production and running cost for large scale firms in Nigeria.

The power allocation from TCN to the two DisCos in Lagos, Ikeja Electric and EKEDC, has also crumbled with Ikeja Electric, which hitherto gets 400MW daily now receives about 100 MW.

Confirming the outage and load shedding, Ikeja Electric said in a statement sent to Platforms Africa that its customers should “bear with us at this time.”

The statement reads;

OUTAGE ALERT

Dear Esteemed Customer,

The poor power supply you have been experiencing in certain parts of our network, due to load shedding by Transmission as a result of drop in power generation still persists

We regret the inconvenience this has caused over the last few weeks and wish to assure that the responsible stake holders in the electricity value chain are working tirelessly to improve the situation.

Kindly bear with us at this time.

Ikeja Electric
