APC primaries: Late arrival of electoral materials delay election across Lagos

The APC  House of Assembly primaries in Lagos State has  been delayed at some venues due to late arrival of electoral materials.

Some of the venues included Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1, Ikorodu Central, Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Somolu Constituency II, Agege LGA, Surulere Constituency 1, Kosofe Constituency 1, Ifako/Ijaye Constituency 1 and II, and Mushin Constituency 1 and II among others.

The officials of the Independent  National Electoral Commission  (INEC) were present at all the venues with heavy security presence.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security (DSS), NSCDC, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) were fully represented.

At Ikorodu Central, the primary election had not started by 4:20 pm when the report was filed.

The APC Chairman, Ikorodu central, Mr Waheed Animashaun, said  the election was on hold because the APC electoral officers to conduct the primaries were also dedicated to conduct similar elections in other places.

“We have also been told that they have not been given materials from the state headquarters because of the ongoing governorship primary election,” he said.

APC leaders and delegates could be seen at the venue of the primaries, waiting for election materials.

The premises for the election at Amuwo- Odofin was calm, but party officials and members were nowhere to be seen.

The electoral officer, who refused to disclose his name, said they had instructed the delegates, aspirants and party members to keep away from the venue to avoid loitering.

He said they would be alerted once the materials arrived and accreditation would commence thereafter.

It was a different story at Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, as correspondents were told that the absence of electoral officers and materials may lead to  postponement.

“Even the electoral officers are not on ground, so the elections may be shifted to Friday, ” he said.

As at 5 p.m., the Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA venue was scanty and most of the delegates had left.
