Nigeria beat Cameroon to qualify for WAFCON semis, 2023 World Cup

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are through to the semi-finals of the on-going Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a 1-0 win over Cameroon in a quarter-final fixture played in Casablanca on Thursday.

The victory over the Indomitable Lionesses at the for Stade Mohamed V Stadium means the Super Falcons – Africa’s most successful national team of all-time – are through to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 56th minute by Rasheedat Ajibade.

All four teams that make the semi-finals at the ongoing WAFCON would pick automatic tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the team adjudged to have finished fifth after a playoff between the losing quarter-finalists presented with another chance for a shot at a Playoff Tournament next year.

Up next for the Super Falcons is a semi-final clash against tournament hosts Morocco on July 18 in Rabat.

Morocco defeated Botswana 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the WAFCON last-four for the first time ever.
