August water transportation fare rose to N974.26 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics has said the average fare paid for water transport in August 2022 rose to N974.26, showing a 0.87 per cent increase on a month-on-month basis from N965.82 in July 2022.

The reports noted that Delta State recorded the highest in water transport fare with N3,275.00, Rivers N2,900.00, while Borno had the least with N348.02.

According to the bureau, on a year-on-year basis, water transport fares rose by 14.84 per cent from N848.36 in August 2021.

Data from the report indicated that the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes for a single journey rose by 6.96 per cent on a month-on-month basis, from N60,811.76 in July 2022 to N65,041.89 in August 2022.

“On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 76.72% from 36,805.41 in August 2021,” NBS said.

The NBS stated that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop decreased by 0.05 per cent on a month-on-month basis, from N602.77 in July 2022 to N602.48 in August 2022.

“On a year-on-year basis, however, the average fare paid rose by 39.92% from N430.58 in August 2021,” NBS stated

On a state profile analysis, according to the NBS report, Taraba recorded the highest fare for bus journey within the city (per drop constant route) at N820.18, preceded by Bauchi with N780.52, while Borno, which recorded the least with N456.17.

Further analysis showed that intercity bus travel (state route charged per person fare) in August 2022 was N5900.50 in Abuja, N5,200.72 in Adamawa and 1,690.37 in Kwara.

The bureau further noted that “in August 2022 Delta had the highest air transport fare (for specific routes single journey) with N76,000.00, Adamawa N70,500,00, while Jigawa, Nasarawa, Osun, Niger and Gombe recorded the least with N60,000.00 each.”

In addition, Kwara State had the highest motorcycle transport fare in August 2022 with N720.17, while Lagos was N660.26. The least was recorded in Edo with N170.26.

Similarly, water transport fare was highest in Delta State with N3,275.00, followed by Rivers with N2,900.00, while Borno had the least with N348.02.

In terms of zones, it was discovered that South-South recorded the highest air transport fare in August 2022 with N67,366.67, while North-East was N66,950.00. North-Central had the least with N62,235.71.
