Nigeria Prizes @20: NLNG honour’s Prisca Sam-Duru with N5M, electric gadgets

As part of activities in celebrating two decades of the Nigeria Prizes, inpacting outstanding journalist, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has honored Prisca Sam-Durum of the Vanguard Newspaper, a prize of N5 million, Laptop, phone and other information technology gadgets for her resilience.

Sam-Durum emerged the overall best of the 2024 prestigious Nigeria Prizes for Literature and Science through a very transparent and detailed process, which all the journalists present commended.

The award, themed “Celebrating the Voices of Impact: Nigeria Prizes @ 20,” marked 20 years of NLNG’s commitment to supporting and acknowledging intellectual and scientific achievements in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mr Andy Odeh, who commended the wonderful works of media professionals in sharing NLNG’s narrative, noted Sam-Duru’s resilience, and contributions in the last twenty years, spotlighting NLNG’s literary and scientific awards.

According to him; “This award is in recognition of your tireless efforts in promoting the NLNG story and highlighting the importance of our contributions to literature and science.”

He urged journalists to engage in more investigative and in-depth reporting, which can cast light on broader national issues beyond standard press releases.

On her part, the keynote speaker, Funke Egbemode, former president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), urged other corporations to emulate NLNG’s example in celebrating journalists.

Egbemode highlighted the pivotal role of the media in shaping Nigeria’s narrative, stressing, “Those who don’t know what to do with the media see us as enemies.”

NLNG, a key player in harnessing Nigeria’s gas resources for sustainable development, sponsors three of Africa’s most prestigious awards: The Nigeria Prize for Science, The Nigeria Prize for Literature, and The Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism, each worth $100,000.

Through these initiatives, NLNG continues to affirm its commitment to fostering excellence, innovation, and intellectual growth in Nigeria.
