UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has departed New York to attend the 2022 Spring Meetings.

UN Spokesperson, Mr Stéphane Dujarric, disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday at the UN headquarters.

“Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General, left for Washington, D.C., this morning, to attend the 2022 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as related events,’’ he said.

The 2022 Spring Meetings of the IMF which commenced on Monday is expected to end on Sunday.

Mohammed had earlier told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in New York, that developing countries could still achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, through the support of international financial institutions.

The SDGs are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

The UN General Assembly set the goals in 2015 with a target date of attainment fixed at 2030.

“We are targeting G20 and Spring Meetings. We are targeting those meetings to help to mobilise resources and to create the enabling environment,’’ Mohammed told NAN.

According to her, attention is on multilateralism to get different ways to get financing to achieve the goals.
