Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, has urged women groups, civil society organisations and other well meaning Nigerians to march on the National Assembly in demand of constitutional amendment for creation of State police.
Oba Ogunoye III said it was a sad sight to behold innocent children killed in the June 5th attack on the St Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
The Owo monarch spoke when women groups and the Owo is One organisation visited his palace to donate drugs and money to victims of the attack currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Oba Ogunoye III, who expressed optimism that the attackers would soon be apprehended, said Nigerians had to be assured of security to lives and property.
His words: “There is no reason why why the Federal glGovernment should have exclusive preserved of the police. The state government should take over policing their various states.
“Let us begin to advocate for true federalism and creation of State police. Let us practice federalism the way it is practice in other countries. Let us begin to advocate for power devolution.
“As we cry for the president to save lives, let us go to the National Assembly. They should amend the constitution so that lives could be secured. It was saddening seeing children being killed.
“Many have shown concern for the well being of the victims. I appreciate them for doing something towards the health of the survivors.”
Leader of the Owo is One delegation, Mr. Oluwale Daramola, said N5m has been set aside to give to the victims in the hospitals.
Daramola, who presented the items to management of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo and the St Louis medical centre, said items donated included anti biotics, infusion and consumables.
“We are going to give individual victim a token. This type of attack has never happened in Owo. This dastardly act is wicked. They will never get peace wherever they are.”
