The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has projected Nigeria’s passenger traffic to grow by seven per cent over the next 10 years.
The agency said the expected growth is higher than 5.3 per cent which is what the aviation industry would experience globally during the period.
While stating that the expected growth is an indication of the huge potential the sector has, it called on investors to harness the potential in the proposed airport city.
The Federal Government recently got 12,000 acres of land for aviation development in the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
FAAN said the land which is proposed to host the airport city offers land to investors to build MROs, hotels, restaurants, own farmlands and other businesses that are guaranteed to thrive.
Speaking in Abuja at an investment forum organised by FAAN, the Director, Commercial and Business Development of the agency, Sadiku Rafindadi said: “Nigerian aviation market is huge, yet untapped, we plan to fully tap Nigeria’s potential and fully harness the available opportunities within the 21 airports managed by FAAN.
“In 2020, the domestic and international passenger traffic stood at 9,358,186 as against 15,886,955 in 2021 representing a difference of 41per cent.
“Analysts have forecast that Nigeria’s passenger traffic will exceed that of the global aviation sector, as such, aviation remains pivotal to the socio-economic growth of Nigeria’’
