Dennis Jones writes BAGAIA Commissioner thrilled with mentoring experience

Former Managing Director National Transportation Safety Board, Mr. Dennis Jones has written to the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) Commissioner, Engineer Charles Irikefe Erhueh, stating that it was indeed thrilling for him to impart knowledge and wisdom with prospective and current aviation professionals.

Jones made this known while commending both the BAGAIA Commissioner and the Accident Investigation Bureau- Nigeria( AIB-N) for the experience in Nigeria after the Workshop on the Role of the Accident/Incident Investigation in the State Safety Programme (SSP) and Flight Recorder Workshop -“Recorders and Beyond” held in Abuja, Nigeria from 14th-18th November 2022.

In an appreciation letter made available to the media, Jones explained that he had in time passed declined numerous opportunities to be involved in various projects and initiatives but for matters concerning Africa and those associated with BAGAIA.

He further expressed confidence that the region in terms of investigation is under a remarkable stewardship stating that Engineer Erhueh is committed to public safety and he would do his best to share from his wealth of experience to further strengthen that resolve.

He wrote: “As I conveyed during the programme, retirement life has been wonderful, and apart from a few exceptions I have declined numerous requests to be involved in various projects and initiatives. A prominent exception has been matters involving the African continent, particularly those associated with BAGAIA.

“You can, therefore, always count on me to exuberantly assist the organization, as deemed appropriate. The potential of both BAGAIA and yourself are unlimited, and I confidently feel that the region and beyond are under the remarkable stewardship of the organization and its noble initiatives with you at the leadership as the safety czar committed to assure public confidence in the aviation transportation system.

Jones stated that he would continue to cherish the Nigerian experience. “I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to BAGAIA under your leadership for the invitation to participate in the event.

As you may have noticed, during my speaking sessions I was actually enjoying myself immensely, insomuch I was eagerly imparting my knowledge and wisdom with prospective and current aviation professionals who potentially will be significant contributors and leaders in the aviation community.

“I was especially blessed to have inspirational and highly knowledgeable mentors who were pivotal in my own successes, and it is in that same tradition and spirit that I engaged with the attendees at the sessions for them to likewise benefit, if not prosper, from my wealth of experience. “
