By Thompson ABISOLA

The Permanent Representative of Nigeria to ECOWAS, Mr Babatunde Nurudeen, has challenged high income earners in Nigeria to support community development in their areas.

A statement on Sunday in Ilorin by Alhaji Uthman Jagunma reported Nurudeen as making the call while receiving the executive members of the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Jagunma, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, said that the executives were led on the visit  by the National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salaudeen.

According to the statement,  the Ilorin-born envoy said that community development was a responsibility of all, to facilitate acceleration of growth in the country.

The Permanent Representative commended the youth association for embarking on annual empowerment programmes to alleviate the suffering of the people of Ilorin and urged the members to sustain the tempo.

He implored individuals and corporate organisations to partner with development associations to contribute positively to the progress of host communities.

In his speech, Salaudeen said that the aim and objective of the association was to alleviate the suffering of indigent people in Ilorin Emirate by providing succour to their plight.

The president said that the visit by the association was to seek for assistance towards the preparation for the forthcoming annual empowerment programme.

He added that the association had contributed positively to the growth of Ilorin Emirate and the state in general in the area of empowerment programme and community development.

The association, the statement said, was established about five years ago to eradicate poverty, engage youths in various programmes and empowerment for peaceful old age.
