SOS Children’s Villages celebrate 50 years of impact in Nigeria

SOS Children’s Villages, a non-governmental social development organisation, has announced plans to celebrate 50 years of operations in Nigeria with a series of activities.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Eghosa Erhumwunse, SOS Children’s Villages, Country Director, on Monday in Lagos.

Erhumwunse said for five decades, SOS had remained steadfast in its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children in Nigeria.

He said the organisation was thrilled to celebrate this remarkable journey.

“Established in 1973, SOS Children’s Villages in Nigeria has been a frontrunner in advocating for the rights and well-being of children in Nigeria.

“Our journey commenced in Isolo, Lagos, Nigeria, with a pledge to provide high-quality alternative care, education, healthcare, and support to underprivileged children.

“Over the years, we have extended our reach and impact. Presently, we have a programmatic presence in states such as Ogun, Lagos, Plateau, Oyo, Edo, Kaduna, Borno, Benue, Rivers, Imo, and the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.

He said the organisation’s accomplishments centred on alternative care, family dtrengthening, youth development and advocacy and partnership for quality care.

“To celebrate our 50th Anniversary, SOS Children’s Villages is organising a series of events throughout November 2023, including a charity gala and a football competition for young people in our programmes.

“We extend an invitation to everyone, from our dedicated volunteers and supporters to our partners and friends, to join us in these celebrations.

“It’s a momentous occasion for us, and when we reflect on our impact over the years, our commitment to ensuring that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect, and security is further strengthened,” Erhumwunse said.
