Upscale campaigns for peace, SDGs boss enjoins Nigerian leaders

By Elizabeth ADENUGA

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs Adejoke Adefulire,  has urged leaders at various levels to upscale campaigns for peaceful coexistence in the country.

Adefulire made the call on Friday in Abuja during a partnership meeting with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internal Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) aimed at tackling migration crises.

She urged political leaders and clerics who impact on the people to preach peace, to stop the many crises that had ravaged several parts of the country.

She noted that lack of peace and incessant violence had led to the socio-economic crises hampering national development and leading to displacements.

Adefulire urged Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his transformation agenda in order to achieve the SDGs by 2030.

“We need to step up campaign on peaceful co-existence among the people.

“ We need to engage religious leaders and organizations to always preach peace because when there is love, there would be peace and less violence.

“We need to go back to the drawing board; it is not only those of us in positions that are to take responsibility, everybody has a role to play.

“Together, individually, collectively, we have responsibilities to join hands with the government to make Nigeria great again.

“The President is doing well; he is working hard; he is doing his best; we must support him to make Nigeria great again.’’

She decried the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and stressed the need for every child to be in school, to reduce the rate of out-of-school children, which she explained, was a threat to the future.

The SSA to the President said that the office of the SDGs had been working with state governments and organisations to ameliorate the situation of displaced persons and to restore hope to them.

She pledged the commitment of her office to work towards achieving the five pillars of the SDGs in order to make Nigeria great again.
