Pastor dupes woman N352,000 with ‘Special Prayer’ scheme

A 44-year-old pastor, David Eludi, has been arraigned before an Ojo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining N352,000 from a woman under false pretenses.
The Prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in November in the Jakande area of Ajangbadi in Ojo.
Eludi, who pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretenses, and stealing, was accused of conspiring with others to deceive Florence Samuel into believing that the money would be used for “family liberation” rituals.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant failed to perform any such rituals and instead converted the funds to his personal use.
The offences contravene Sections 287, 314, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni granted Eludi bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till January 12, 2024, for mention.
