The Mining Marshal of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has cracked down on illegal mining sites in Nasarawa State.

In a bid to intensify the war against economic sabotage, the mining marshal arrested two locals and three foreign nationals.

The Commander General Mining Marshals, J. A. Onoja, in a statement on Sunday, stressed a strong commitment to protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure and ensuring sustainable mining practices.

The Federal Government recently launched “Mining Marshals” for the NSCDC to checkmate illegal mining of solid minerals across the country.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, performed the ceremony as part of activities to mark the 2024 International Civil Defence Day at the headquarters of the NSCDC in Abuja.

The minister said the marshals would carry out their functions in conjunction with the Ministry of Solid Minerals.
