Domestic families take in 90% of adopted Chinese Children

By Giwa SHILE

Nearly 90 per cent of adopted Chinese children were taken in by domestic

families in 2017, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.

A total of 17,510 Chinese children were adopted in 2017, with 15,336 adopted by Chinese families, 87.6 per cent of
the total, and 12.4 per cent adopted by foreign families, the ministry statement noted.

It added that most of the children adopted by foreign families could quickly adjust to the new environment
overseas and grow up healthly.

It stated that the ministry had released circular requiring local authorities to improve services for return visits
by foreign adoptive families.

It explained that such visits were non profit in nature and any charges for the visits were not allowed.
