By Olamilekan FAWAS

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Command in Gombe State says it secured 13 convictions for different drug offences between January and May 2018.

The NDLEA Commander in Gombe, Mr. Aliyu Adole, said in Gombe on Friday that some of the convicted persons were cases carried over from 2017.

He said 27 persons were remanded in prison custody while awaiting trial and two others were currently undergoing three months rehabilitation at the NDLEA rehabilitation centre in Gombe.

According to him, the rehabilitation period was reduced from six to three months due to the lack of facilities at the centre.

“We pray that by the time they come out from rehabilitation, they will be free from drug addiction and properly reintegrated into their families.”

He said during the period under review, the command seized 213.68 kg of drugs comprising cannabis, psychotropic substances and cocaine, among others.

Adole advised parents to ensure proper upbringing of their wards as God had entrusted them to their care.
