By  Thompson ABISOLA

Niger Government on Tuesday described retired Col. Sani Bello, a former Governor of Old Kano State, as a committed philanthropist as he marked his 76 years birthday.

A statement by Alhaji Danjuma Sallau, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, commended Col. Sani Bello’s “wise counsel and relentless contributions to the growth and development of the state as well as the country in general”.

“Col Sani Bello as a philanthropist, passionate about touching the lives of the people, especially the youth and women.

“Col Sani Bello Foundation, established by the former Military Governor of old Kano State (1975-1978) in Kontagora, has indeed helped the youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills.

“Bello has distinguished himself as a global citizen, deeply rooted in his community and committed to the common good of the people in his immediate constituency,” he said.

Sallau prayed God to grant the elder statesman more years in good health and wisdom to continue to offer fatherly advice to the government and Nigeria.
