Uzodimma constitutes 26-member committee for Imo 50th anniversary

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has announced the composition of a 26-member committee to plan activities for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Mr Declan Emelumba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the committee, “which will be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu, will be formally inaugurated on Friday, January 23, at the Expanded Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Owerri”, the statement partly stated.

It added, “Other members of the committee include the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Paul Obinatu; the Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Dr Chucks Chukwuemeka; and the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Mr Declan Emelumba.”

Also listed are “the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Barr. Ralph Nwosu; the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Chika Abazu; the Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Mr Ernest Ibejiako; the Commissioner for Health, Dr Chioma Egu; the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Onyeocha Obinna Evaristus; the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha; and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Mrs Ruby Emele.”

Other members include, “the Head of Service of Imo State, Mr Chikodi Emenalo, mni; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Events Management and Programme Coordination, Sir Bright Nwelue; the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Imo State, Engr. Ikenna Adikibe; the President of the Owerri Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief Tony Amadi; and the Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Uchefula Chukwumaeze, SAN.

“Also on the committee are the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Imo State, Rev. Uzoma Uzoeshi; the Chief Imam of Imo State, Barr. Suleiman Njoku; the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma; the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Imo State, Comrade Chigemezu Nwigwe; and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Comrade Uchenna Ibe.”

The list also includes “a representative of Imo State members of the National Assembly; the Chairman, Forum of Former Members of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe; and the State President of the National Council of Women Societies, Lady Stella Anyacho.”

PUNCH Online reports that the committee is expected to plan and coordinate activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of Imo State.
