UN says international inquiry needed into Saudi journalist’s murder

By Olaleke ASHAFA

United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet says  an international investigation is needed to determine who is responsible for the murder of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, in October.

Bachelet was responding to a question at a news conference in Geneva on Wednesday.

Senior U.S. senators had on Tuesday said they were more certain than ever that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible for the killing.

They said this  after receiving a CIA briefing on the matter.

Asked at the news conference about the need for an international inquiry, Bachlet  replied: “I do believe it is really needed in terms of ensuring what really happened and who are the people responsible for that awful killing.”
